Become an Independent Contractor (IC) with RubyRed's Pet Care, LLC!

RubyRed’s Pet Care, LLC is growing fast, and we need help! RubyRed’s Pet Care pet sitters and dog walkers provide an invaluable service for pet owners, particularly those who travel frequently or have long work hours. Those who undertake this line of work must sincerely enjoy animals, multitask, and have exceptional time management skills.

We are currently looking for independent contractors that service the cities/towns of Irmo, Lexington, and Columbia, South Carolina (Counties: Richland & Lexington County)

What is an Independent Contractor (IC)?

An independent contractor is a self-employed individual, business, or corporation that provides goods or services under a written contract or a verbal agreement and is subject to self-employment taxes and other financial obligations.

Unlike employees, independent contractors do not regularly work for an employer but work as required when they may be subject to the law of agency.

Independent contractors are responsible for their expenses, supply their tools and equipment, and are responsible for any business-related costs. To learn more, visit the IRS.GOV site.

This means independent contractors are NOT employees of RubyRed's Pet Care, LLC.

To be considered as an independent contractor for RubyRed’s Pet Care, LLC, an IC must have and complete the following at the IC's expense:

  • At least one (1) year of professional pet care experience (caring for your or a family member’s pets is not professional pet care)

  • Be insured and bonded (RubyRed’s Pet Care, LLC must be added as an “additional insured” at the IC’s expense)

  • Obtain the required business licenses (this is dependent on the cities/towns/counties the IC services. Check the local ordinances in the areas you intend to serve if one is required)

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • If providing Pet Taxi Service, pass a DMV check

  • Provide at least three professional references that can attest to your experience as a professional pet care provider

 Day in the Life of a Pet Sitters usually consists of:

  • Clean up after, groom, exercise and provide care for cats, dogs, and small rodents includes dog walking services and litter box and cage cleaning

  • Observe outdoor and indoor play to ensure the safety of the pet

  • Feed and provide water-based upon client instructions, which may be very detailed and must be followed exactly as given

  • Meet with potential clients to secure business, advertise services provided and explain the details of how pet sitting works

  • Report any injuries or illnesses to the manager as soon as possible, along with completing an injury/illness form to turn in as soon as the manager is on-site

  • Respect clients’ homes and personal property when on-site offering pet sitting services, includes cleaning up any pet messes

  • Provide additional customer service as requested by clients, which may include picking up mail, watering plants, and opening and closing blinds or curtains


Basic Pet Sitter Level:


  • Must love animals

  • Be at least 21 years old

  • Working knowledge of animal behavior

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills

  • Have a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license

  • Pass criminal background check

  • Ability to work varying schedules

  • Patient, reliable, and trustworthy


Advanced Pet Sitter Level:

  • Previous experience caring for different animals of various sizes and breeds.

  • Experience working with special needs and senior pets

  • Certified in and ability to perform First Aid & CPR

  • Ability to work overnight hours, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to administer medications orally and via injection
